Par foudre en l'arche or & argent fondu.
Des deux captifs l'vn l'autre mangera,
De la cité le plus grand estendu,
Quand submergee la classe nagera

For the heat in the coffer gold and money melted
The two captives one other wil be swallowed
In the city the greater one perforated
At its falling down the navy will swim
 

        The first verse says that gold and the money would be melted because of the heat. The translation we have made is not very good as long it is difficult to transmit the exact idea using only one word. The term foudre means the emanation that comes from the fire, under the form of warm gases  and in the verse we have translated simply by  heat. The translation for  fondu, that it is the past of foudre, is really to melt, however this verb was used at the time Nostradamus lived very appropriately with the meaning of  "making juice".  This is a mention to the finances and the subsequent recession.

        The second verse talks about the two captives, which in this case were the twin towers, both “eaten”  by the fire. 

        The third verse says that in the city (New York), the greater "was perforated/trespassed". The term estendu is used in any thing that easily is punched by metals.

        The last verse says that when the greater of the city fall down the American navy departed.  Nagera means to swim, or in figured sense, to raise anchors and depart.

Fondre sign. aussi Tomber en abysme, s'escrouler. Il y a des villes qui ont fondu tout d'un coup. la terre a fondu sous ses pieds. la maison fondit tout à coup.

Fondre, sign. aussi Tomber impetueusement, Se lancer avec violence de haut en bas. Le ciel est bien couvert, & l'orage est prest à fondre. l'orage fondit tout à coup. je ne sçay où ira fondre l'orage. l'oiseau fondit tout d'un coup sur la perdrix. un milan qui fond sur un poulet.

Il sign. fig. Attaquer impetueusement & tout à coup. La cavalerie alla fondre sur l'aile gauche des ennemis.

TENDRE. adj. de tout genre. Qui est facile à couper, à penetrer par le fer, ou par quelque autre chose de semblable, Il est opposé à Dur. Du bois extremément tendre. le sapin, le saule, & le peuplier sont bois tendres. bastir de pierres tendres. entre les pierres precieuses il y en a de tendres & de dures. l'Amethyste, & l'esmeraude sont pierres tendres. le plomb, & l'estain sont les plus tendres des metaux.

Tendre, se dit aussi, Des viandes faciles à mascher, à couper entre les dents. La viande fraische tuée n'est pas tendre. une viande extremément tendre. on ne peut rien manger de plus tendre.
