III. 81.
The great inventor shameless
and audacious |
|
This quatrain refers to a series of events in Germany after the raise oh Hitler to power in 1933. The first verse designates Hitler as a "criard" (someone that invents histories, a liar), "shameless" and audacious and these were features of his personality that were used on that occasion. But Hitler invented many more histories to justify his actions. Over the Jews he put the guilty for the economical ruin of Germany. Soon after having come to power, invented the history of the Reichstag Fire (see C09Q017). I 1939, when Poland was invaded, he cited persecutions to German citizens that did not exist. On the day of the invasion he cited a an attack of Poland on the German border. The list is long and we understand that this few examples are enough to understand the term "criard". The second verse says that he will be nominated "governor of the armed forces". In 02-AUG-1934, just three hours after the death of Hindenburg, Hitler was nominated State Chief and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. His titles were Fürher (see C09Q017) and Reich's Chancellor (see C11Q025). In fact, the charges he had violated the Constitution and the will of Hindenburg. Hindenburg had written his lat will in a letter that was addressed to the Reich's Chancellor and in his planes, Hitler was not involved. His suggestion was that one of the descendants of the Hohenzollern Royal House were the State Chief and not Hitler. The letter was erroneously given to Hitler by von Papen in 15-AUG-1933 in Berchtesgaden (along with other letter) and its contents was not obviously divulged. The third and fourth verses talks about the occupation of Rhineland. A relatively small military force (four brigades, according Jodl, in Nuremberg) crossed the Rhine River (Le pont rompu) entering on the demilitarized zone. Neurath, the Ministry of Foreign Relations, at 10 o' clock in the morning, convoked the ambassadors of France, England and Italy to notify them about the invasion and denounces the Lugarno Treaty, which was freely subscribed by Germany in 1925. In this treaty, by an exigency of France, that area should stay free of military forces. France could have stopped Hitler intentions on that exact moment and inflict a military defeat that would cause Hitler to leave the power in Germany, but the fear of loosing a war and the internal political fights led France to adopt only minor defensive measures: the Maginot Line was reinforced. In spite of the surprise, the French Government wanted to act but the High Command, because of fear, resigned to go on a military conflict. Gamelin supported the idea that a war operation on that moment would lead to incalculable risks and could not be made without a general mobilization. The City, i.e., Paris, did nothing because of the fear (Cité de peur pasmee). This state of mind of the French - to accept Hitler's occupation policy of piecemeal (or let's say greedy?) recover of the old territories lost on WWI (Versailhes Treaty) based only on military actions - was also evident in C01Q034, when Bonnet tried to negotiate a peace with Germany when Hitler was inside Poland indeed. On the other hand, the French mobilization at the German border was enough to alarm the German High Command. Blomberg (Defense Ministry), supported by Jodl and the majority of high patent officials wanted to retreat. However, Hitler rejected all suggestions of the German High Command since he was sure that France would not react. England also reacted passively and did not agreed with the pleads from France for support in a military counter-action (11-MAR-1936). The opportunity to take Hitler out of power was lost. The audacity of Hitler was awarded. (la hardiesse de son contentieux) Some Numerical Relationships
